Champions League Quarter-Finals: Barcelona and PSG Survive Fierce Battles to Book Semi-Final Spots

The UEFA Champions League delivered high drama tonight as two European giants, FC Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain, survived intense second-leg pressure to seal their places in the semi-finals. Both sides were pushed to the brink, but aggregate victories ensured they lived to fight another day on the road to Munich.

Borussia Dortmund played with their hearts on fire at the Signal Iduna Park, overturning a woeful first-leg performance with a relentless 3–1 victory over Barcelona. Serhou Guirassy was the star of the night, scoring a hat-trick that sent the famous yellow wall into a frenzy.

Yet, it wasn’t enough. Barcelona’s crushing 4–0 victory at the Camp Nou last week proved decisive. A second-half own goal by Ramy Bensebaini gave the Catalans an away goal cushion and effectively sealed the deal.

Despite the loss on the night, Barcelona advance to their first Champions League semi-final in six years. For Xavi Hernández, this represents a turning point — a signal that Barca is back among Europe’s elite.

“We suffered, no doubt about it,” said Xavi post-match. “But this is what the Champions League is about. We’re proud to be in the semi-finals.”

Villa Park witnessed one of the season’s most pulsating European nights. Aston Villa, carrying Premier League hopes on their shoulders, defeated PSG 3–2 in a heroic effort.

Ollie Watkins, Moussa Diaby, and Douglas Luiz each found the net, igniting belief among home fans that a comeback was possible. However, goals from Hakimi and Mendes ensured PSG held firm, progressing on aggregate thanks to their strong 3–1 first-leg showing.

For Unai Emery’s men, the journey ends with heads held high. For PSG, it’s mission continued — the Parisians remain desperate to win their first ever Champions League trophy.

“We knew it would be a battle,” said PSG boss Luis Enrique. “Aston Villa pushed us to our limits, but we are still standing.”

The quest for European glory is heating up — and only the strongest will survive as Inter Milan plays Bayern Munich and Real Madrid takes on Arsenal.
